MEET THE PROS

Scott Kahler

Director of Racquet Sports

Scott grew up in the Pittsburgh area. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Clairton where he was the 2003 WPIAL tennis champion and the PIAA state runner-up. Upon graduation, Scott attended Furman University in Greenville, SC. While at Furman, Scott helped lead the Paladins to the 2006 Southern Conference Championship. In 2007, he earned an All-Conference nomination, as well as being selected to the Academic All-Conference team from 2004-2007.

Upon graduation from Furman, Scott moved back to Pittsburgh where he took the job of Assistant Tennis Pro and Head Platform Tennis Pro at Mt. Lebanon from 2008-2014. During this time, Scott continued to compete in regional and national USTA events, having won doubles and mixed doubles tournaments in West Virginia and the ITA National Collegiate Clay Court Championships held in Pittsburgh.

In 2014, Scott moved to New Jersey to become the Director of Racquets at Essex Fells Country Club. Not surprising to most of us, while in New Jersey, Scott realized he missed Pittsburgh and wanted to return home to his roots. Luckily, the position of Director of Tennis became available at Wildwood Golf Club in 2015 and Scott jumped at the chance to return to the 'Burgh. Finally, Scott applied for our position as it is the perfect way to combine his love of teaching both tennis and paddle.

While Scott continues to be active in tennis throughout our community, he is also an accomplished paddle player and teacher. Scott, and his partner Casey Watt, are currently ranked 5th in the country in paddle and Scott has won National Rankings Tournaments in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, Charlottesville and New Jersey. He has directed pre-season paddle boot camps throughout our area and has set up introductory league play opportunities in Pittsburgh to attract new players to the sport. Scott holds professional teaching certificates for both tennis and paddle through the USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) and PPTA (Professional Platform Tennis Association).
